The Stillfried-Rattonitz dynasty descended from a Bohemian Duke Stoymir (i.e. Stillfried) of Przemysl. It turned to Austria and owned Stillfried Castle on the March. In the 14th century it split to Silesia. In 1680 the family was raised to the rank of barons.
It then split again into several lines. The Austrian, baronial line subsequently wrote itself Stillfried von Ratenicz or Stillfried von Rathenitz. The Prussian line Stillfried-Rattonitz split into several lines, of which there are baronial and countial branches.
